Highlights at La Plata Farm

 

* January

Plow snow and  feed sheep

 

 * February

Still plowing snow we hope (that is our summer irrigation storage)

 

* March

Shearing time at LPF.  We shear before lambing to help the ewes and the lambs find all the important parts.  Start getting the barn ready for lambing

 

* April

We normally begin lambing in early April so the lambs are ready to graze the spring grass when they are a month old.

 Begin irrigating our pasture and hay fields

 

* May

 Ewes and lambs out to pasture on the lush green grass

Memorial Day Weekend, Pagosa Fiber Festival, Pagosa Springs, Colorado  Pagosa Fiber Festival

 

* June

 Estes Park Wool Market  Come visit our booth    Estes Park Wool Market  

  Sheep is Life  A celebration of Navajo Culture and Sheep   www.navajolifeways.org

 Last week of June, Cut our hay and store in the barn for winter

 

* July

Visit us at Convergence in Albuquerque, New Mexico  Convergence 

 

* August

Second cutting of hay if the irrigation water held out

 

* September

Fall shearing of the lambs,  Watch for our beautiful fall fleeces

 

* October

Taos Wool Festival  Come visit our booth. Our 26rd year   Taos Wool Festival

 

* November

Wild Wooley Women Fall Retreat

Start feeding hay when the snow fly's,  start breeding ewes for next season's lambs

* December

 Enjoy our family and all of our animals
